September 21st
– International Day of Peace

Jeremy Gilley had a
fantastic thought:
“When you build a
house, you start with one brick. To build Peace, let’s start with one day.”
(Taken from: Peace One Day by
J. Gilley & K. Blessen)
World leaders agreed
and decided that on September 21st there would be a global
cease-fire, a day of non-violence, a day of Peace. Our class shared in the
spirit of peace by participating in our school’s Peace Celebrations. This
offered the children the opportunity to experience peace towards each other, to
promote peace in our classroom, our school, and our world.
October 31st
– Harvest Celebration
Our class will
celebrate Harvest with traditional fun and projects. On this day, students may
wear farm attire such as jeans, flannel shirts, straw hat, boots, etc.
November –
Thanksgiving Celebration
The children will
discuss thankfulness and what it means to share what we have with others. We
will learn about the first Thanksgiving and cultures of the people living at
that time. Special times of dramatizations, making of traditional foods and
crafts will be shared between classrooms.
What We’re Studying…
☺This
Fall our Science lessons will focus initially on our Solar System. We will study the
Sun, Planets, our Moon, and astronauts.
☺We will
also study the human body parts, various systems and the skeleton.
☺ In Cultural Studies we will
be focusing on North America. We will be looking at the United
States, as well as discussing Pilgrims and Native Americans. We will focus on
the Ojibiwa nation; specifically because our friend Evan is a member of this
community. Finally, we will study Mexico with a look at their traditional holiday
celebrations. |
