September 21st
– International Day of Peace

Jeremy Gilley had a
fantastic thought:
“When you build a
house, you start with one brick. To build Peace, let’s start with one day.”
(Taken from: Peace One Day by
J. Gilley & K. Blessen)
World leaders agreed
and decided that on September 21st there would be a global
cease-fire, a day of non-violence, a day of Peace. Our class shared in the
spirit of peace by participating in our school’s Peace Celebrations. This
offered the children the opportunity to experience peace towards each other, to
promote peace in our classroom, our school, and our world.
October 31st
– Harvest Celebration
Our class will
celebrate Harvest with traditional fun and projects. On this day, students may
wear farm attire such as jeans, flannel shirts, straw hat, boots, etc.
November –
Thanksgiving Celebration
The children will
discuss thankfulness and what it means to share what we have with others. We
will learn about the first Thanksgiving and cultures of the people living at
that time. Special times of dramatizations, making of traditional foods and
crafts will be shared between classrooms.
What We’re Studying…
☺This
Fall we will study our Solar System and our place in space.
☺Our
continent of focus will be Asia.
☺
We will study the human body and how it functions.
☺ We will learn about how the
Pilgrims and the Native Americans
with the Kindergarten students focusing their study on
the Cherokee Nation.
☺ Sign Language
In October, we will be reviewing our
alphabet signs and the Kindergarten students will practice signing their names. We will then move on to colors with games
like "I Spy" to help with the learning process.
In November, we will introduce the many signs for animals. This will coincide
with
the Kindergarten students learning the signs for the Native American names they have selected in their studies. We will also learn signs related to Thanksgiving
such as corn, pilgrims, etc.
☺Music
& Movement
In October, we will discover the first
family of instruments--the keyboard family. In our classroom children will be able to utilize many instruments such as the
bells, keyboard, and xylophone.
In November, we will work more on rhythm and echoes. We will also start into the second family of instruments--the percussion family. |
