> The
Montessori School of St. Clair was founded in 1978 by Diane Judson. Our
first classroom began with the enrollment of eight pre-school students in a
small rental space on Clinton Avenue in St. Clair.
Because of
increased community interest and growing enrollment, the school was able to
move in January of 1980 onto Fred Moore Hwy. The program was expanded
to include both morning and afternoon sessions for the 1980-81 school year.
Within several years the enrollment reached a maximum of forty-five
students, ages three to six years. Aftercare service was added to meet
the needs of the working families involved.
In 1996 the
School was reorganized as the Montessori Children’s Academy and become a
non-profit 501C3 organization. The reorganization enabled the School to
further expand to include not only the primary program, but reach out to
encompass elementary classes through the fifth grade. A new building was
constructed adjacent to the primary to house our new students. This project
was completed in the Fall of 1996.
The Montessori
Children’s Academy continues to be committed to the Montessori philosophy of
educating the individual within a community. We strive to provide a
challenging and creative environment for our children.
The school
presently has eighty students enrolled with a dedicated staff of twelve.
Our educational programs are registered with the State of Michigan. We are
licensed by the State of Michigan Bureau of Regulatory Services as a
Childcare Center. Our affiliations include the American Montessori Society,
the Michigan Montessori Society, the International Montessori Council and
the Montessori Foundation.
Montessori
Children’s Academy and its founder, teachers, parents, patrons and
supporters have dedicated thousands of hours of time and effort to ensure
that Montessori education continues to grow and nurture the children in the
surrounding areas of St. Clair far into the future.
